For his second straight fight in the octagon, Dricus Du Plessis is going home with a knockout win.
On Saturday night at UFC 264, the South African fighter finished Trevin Giles with a devastating right-hand that came straight down the middle during an exchange to earn him the highlight reel victory. The stoppage came at 1:41 in the second round as Du Plessis moves to 2-0 in his UFC career.
After previously showing off the power in his left hand, Du Plessis was happy to prove his right packs just as much of a punch while winning his seventh fight overall by knockout or TKO.
“The right hand has the power as well,” Du Plessis said after his win. “I knew there was a place for that straight right. It felt amazing to be here. What a spectacular guy to fight.”
Prior to the knockout, Du Plessis actually turned to his grappling to slow down Giles after he was finding success early with a lightning quick jab. On the ground, Du Plessis was constantly threatening with submissions as he constantly threatened to move into the mound while forcing Giles to play defense of his back.
The second round stayed on the feet with Giles showing a little more aggression and he actually clipped Du Plessis with a solid shot against the cage. Unfortunately for him, Du Plessis came back right away with the fight-finishing punch down the middle that put Giles down and out for good.
With four wins in a row overall including back-to-back victories in the UFC, Du Plessis appears to be a name to watch as he moves forward in his career while looking to make waves in a deep middleweight division.
