Even though he is four inches taller, Max Holloway, one of the best boxers in the UFC, should be able to overcome a three-inch reach discrepancy in this fight thanks to his significant hand speed advantage.
TKZ most likely has the upper hand, but Holloway is one of the most resilient fighters in MMA history, suffering a knockdown once( in his third fight with Volkanovski) over the course of his entire career.
However, the Hawaiian has recently appeared a little more frail, wobbling at various points by Allen and Rodriguez on either side of that recent loss to Volk, in which he permitted more strikes( 199) than ever before.
Holloway has taken an average of 135 strikes over the course of his previous nine fights( all since December 2018), and his chin may be beginning to crack.
TKZ may find opportunities to counter and crack an extremely hittable and frequently overzealous Holloway, despite the fact that he is a very one-dimensional striker who rarely confuses targets to the body or legs.
But if the Korean wants to see his hand raised, he might need that sequence to complete the task.
Holloway has a sizable output advantage( 15 vs. 9.4 strike attempts per minute) and is the much more effective and technical striker( 2.37 versus.- 0.38 strikes landed each minute), so it's difficult to imagine TKZ winning enough minutes to secure scorecards in an open kickboxing match.
While Jung is used to 25-minute fights, Holloway can maintain a breakneck pace for the duration of any fight thanks to his elite durability and some of the best stamina in the sport.
As he did in his underdog victory over Dan Ige in June 2021( landed 3 of 5 takedowns for 10:10 of control time), Jung's best course of action is to wrestle and assume dominant grappling positions.
After successful attempts, Holloway has demonstrated urgency to scramble off his back and has excellent takedown defense( 84%).
I don't think TKZ will be able to defeat Holloway, but even if he can, it would be possible for him to use positional control to win the round or try to lock in a submission.
Jung suffered the worst beating of his career, in which he already appeared to have regressed athletically and may continue to struggle to hang with the division's elite, but in the end, we haven't seen him perform in almost 18 months.
